Extending Stakeholder Concept for Interorganizational Environments

This paper analyzes the necessary considerations to apply the concept “stakeholder” when developing information systems in environments where diverse organizations interact through new structures, called Interorganizational Networks. The key role played by stakeholders in the Interorganizational Information Systems development is also analyzed, explaining the different types that can exist in these contexts and differentiating them from the traditional organizational view existing for stakeholders. Diverse criteria for performing stakeholders clustering in interorganizational contexts are proposed and several examples are presented to help project managers in dealing with the quantity, difference of backgrounds and expectations that can be present when managing stakeholders in an interorganizational software project.
